Volume 6, Number 2                                                 MAY - 2012

Hi Everyone,     I'll never get use to this crazy weather, HOT/ COLD.  It's a wonder we are not all sick.   We had a nice time/ "Thyme"   together for Mary's program  and  a vibrate discuss on topics for the rest of the next.    We are not all  ready yet but,  please   do get ready for our plant sale on May 21st at Convenant Central in fellowship Hall.   We will also have a discussion on proprogation with Sandy Murray.     June's picnic will now be members only because we will be moving to Sue Eldred's home to also delight in the discussion of Fairy Gardens with Sue & Donna Blair.   Lots to do to enjoy Spring & enjoy each other's company.    Be well until I see you all again.......Now go play in the dirt......  Trudy.

HAPPY HERB DAY!!!!

I certainly hope you all didn't forget that May 5 is Herb Day. And the weather even cooperated so you could be outside sniffing all the goodies pooping their heads out of the ground and some even blooming their Spring blooms. My Lily of the Valley is also at peak right now and there is a giant bouquet beside me here - they are so potent, but come and go so fast - better grab them while you can!

IT'S NOT TOO LATE - THIS IS STILL DANDELION SEASON! Go get some FREE vitamins and minerals from your yard - add them to salads, stir frys or saute them and you'll be enjoying a Spring Tonic that has been enjoyed for years and years. Pick young tender leaves from plants not yet blooming or they will be bitter. Wash them well! Even a few will add Vitamin A, C, E, K, iron, calcium, magnesium and potassium, plus antioxidants(per Herb Companion May 2012 issue)!!

DANDELION IS NOT JUST A WEED - It's a nutrition powerhouse!  Now is also the time to be on the lookout for Stinging Nettle - another free nutrition-loaded source of vitamins and minerals. Nettle Soup (a creamy potato and nettle soup) or Nettle Garlic Buttermilk Biscuits - two great recipes to try while the nettles are available. Remember to wear you gloves, though....they can itch you crazy if you're not careful

WHAT'S COMIN' UP ? ?

Sorry I have been away these last few meetings - some personal stuff has me pretty well occupied with little time for much else. I'm repeating some items here since I have not heard if they have been addressed or not - so I'm leaving them in as reminders.......

WAY'S GARDEN - we have been invited to participate in the show as we have in the past. Anyone interested in heading that project, please speak to Trudy at the May meeting.

********** We had been invited to join the Duboistown Garden Club for their July meeting but this has been CANCELLED. **********

MAY MEETING - MAY 21 - AT THE CHURCH - 7PM

The World Famous, Surpassed by None, Annual Plant Sale!!!!

Please bring all the plants you can carry, as well as any other garden/herb related items you have to sell, please make sure your plants have labels on them for indentification, please bring $$ to spend, please bring all your friends with $$ to spend......This is always a great place to buy a wide variety of herbs for cheap $$ and get good advice from their previous owners as to their care and growth habits. And don't forget - make sure you come with your trunk or hatchback EMPTY, so you can get all your goodies home safely!
